2017 Predictions -- from AI and Machine Learning to Security, Mobile, IT
Employment Landscape and M&A Activity
Specifically, in 2017 we predict that machine learning will show up in new
and exciting ways. Some people believe that machine learning is the same as
artificial intelligence, but what you are really looking at is this concept
of being able to be more human with your IT infrastructure. At the Microsoft
Build Event last year developers were shown the concept of bots being able to
write code that can interact with you in the communication channel you use -
be it Skype, email, or something different. The ultimate concept is that the
infrastructure IT you use will have the ability to interface with an
intelligent back-end system that benefits you - the everyday user. These
interfaces are now exposed to developers and, in turn, are being embedded
into business ... (more)
Culture: Change or Die
All organizations that did not originate this moment have a pre-existing
culture as well as legacy technology and processes that can be more or less
amenable to DevOps implementation. That organizational culture is influenced
by the personalities and management styles of Executive Management, the wider
culture in which the organization is situated, and the personalities of key
team members at all levels of the organization. This culture and entrenched
interests usually throw a wrench in the works because of misaligned
In his session at @DevOpsSummit 20th Cloud Expo, Greg Bledsoe, a managing
consultant at Accenture, will discuss an algorithmic method that even someone
with no positional power who desires to be an agent of change can implement
to achieve cultural transformation and smooth the transition to overcome
these obstacles... (more)

By 2016, most enterprises had successfully navigated their way from #1 to #2,
but now that it's 2017, there's a good chance #3 is in the offing.
After all, digital transformation has been the hot topic for a while now.
Will 2017 be the year it becomes passé? And if so, what should we do next?
Buzzword Fatigue: It's Inevitable
In times of disruption, buzzwords play an important role. As new
technologies, approaches, and priorities spring up, we need a common
vocabulary so that we can cogently discuss such innovations.
However, it's easy to overuse or misapply buzzwords. Just like salt in your
soup: a pinch may be pleasing, but put in too much a... (more)
Enterprise DevOps Journey, The Things No One Told Me...
When you focus on a journey from up-close, you look at your own technical and
cultural history and how you changed it for the benefit of the customer. This
was our starting point: too many integration issues, 13 SWP days and very
long cycles. It was evident that in this fast-paced industry we could no
longer afford this reality. We needed something that would take us beyond
reducing the development lifecycles, CI and Agile methodologies. We made a
fundamental difference, even changed our culture.

Passwords Are Dead. Long Live Multi-Factor Authentication
President Obama recently announced the launch of a new national awareness
campaign to "encourage more Americans to move beyond passwords - adding an
extra layer of security like a fingerprint or codes sent to your cellphone."
The shift from single passwords to multi-factor authentication couldn't be
timelier or more strategic. This session will focus on why passwords alone
are no longer effective, and why the time to act is now.

Centrify, discussed how we can move away from passwords towards better, more
secure methods of identity verification.

Five Reasons Synthetic Monitoring Is More Important than Ever
By Dennis Callaghan
This post originally appeared as a bylined article in Website Magazine.
Synthetic monitoring is hardly a new technology. It’s been around almost as
long as the commercial World Wide Web has. But the importance of monitoring
the performance and availability of a web application by simulating users’
interactions with that application, from around the globe, has never been
more important. We’ve seen prominent vendors in the broad APM space add
this technology with new development or partnerships just in the last 18
Let’s take a look at some of the reasons this technology, more than 20
years old now, is not only more relevant than ever but vital to the success
of digital businesses:

LogitBot Leveraging Unstructured Data for Improved Investment Strategies
The next BriefingsDirect Voice of the Customer digital transformation case
study highlights how high-performing big-data analysis powers an innovative
artificial intelligence (AI)-based investment opportunity and evaluation
tool. We'll learn how LogitBot in New York identifies, manages, and
contextually categorizes truly massive and diverse data sources.
By leveraging entity recognition APIs, LogitBot not only provides investment
evaluations from across these data sets, it delivers the analysis as
natural-language information directly into spreadsheets as the delivery
endpoint. This is a prime example of how complex cloud-to core-to edge
processes and benefits can be managed and exploited using the most responsive
big-data APIs and services.

The IoT and Next-Generation Monitoring Challenges
By Zachary Flower
We're living in the future.
Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT), our world is more automated and
connected than ever before. Just about everything, from cars to
refrigerators, to coffee machines, has the ability to connect to the
Internet, allowing us to micromanage each individual device. This type of
automation is an exciting direction for the world to be moving in and the
benefits it brings to businesses are huge.
A great example of a traditionally non-networked company using IoT to make
smarter decisions is Rolls-Royce. By integrating networked sensors into their
aircraft engines, Rolls-Royce can send engine data back to monitoring
stations on the ground and stay ahead of the curve on everything from
performance to malfunctions. In a nutshell, they've created their own ver... (more)
Technology of the Year for 2016 - The Web Platform
We’re starting to see predictions about what’s going to be hot in
enterprise technology in 2017. Cloud (yet again), Blockchain, Big Data /
Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) are all among the top of the list.
However, it was Krish Subrumanian’s humorous tweet that started me thinking
about what will be the single most important contribution from the enterprise
technology community in 2016. While all the aforementioned technologies will
certainly see a lot of interest and growth, they’re all enabled by a Web
A platform is an architectural pattern and design that underlies all these
capabilities. Its attributes are the ability to deliver a focused service and
facilitate interaction through programmatic interfaces. The cloud platform

Integration in the Cloud: Leveraging the Power of Platform as a Service
What are the new priorities for the connected business? First: businesses
need to think differently about the types of connections they will need to
make - these span well beyond the traditional app to app into more modern
forms of integration including SaaS integrations, mobile integrations, APIs,
device integration and Big Data integration. It's important these are unified
together vs. doing them all piecemeal. Second, these types of connections
need to be simple to design, adapt and configure. Plus, with the
proliferation of IoT, there is an explosion in the number of devices
requiring interconnection - both in terms of asset monitoring and spatial
