AT&T Supports Efforts to Help Protect U.S. IT Infrastructure During Cyber Security Awareness Month

AT&T Investing in Network Security, Communicating Importance of Cybersecurity Issues for Governments, Businesses and Consumers

DALLAS, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In its ongoing commitment to communicating the importance of cybersecurity issues, AT&T* has announced its support for National Cyber Security Awareness Month, an initiative led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to raise awareness of cybersecurity among governments, businesses and consumers. AT&T delivers a suite of security and business continuity services to help assess vulnerabilities, protect infrastructure, detect attacks and respond to suspicious activities and events. This year alone, AT&T plans to invest between $17 to $18 billion in its wireless and wireline networks. This investment will help AT&T meet the rapid global expansion of advanced information technology and services, in addition to enhancing reliability and security.

"AT&T is building awareness and educating the public on the importance of cybersecurity issues through its relationships with organizations like National Cyber Security Alliance and iKeepSafe, as well as active thought leadership among businesses, elected officials and consumers by our influential industry experts," said Edward G. Amoroso, Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer for AT&T. "AT&T is a global leader in cybersecurity and stands vigilantly at the front lines of emerging global threats, actively defending and helping to protect its portion of the nation's infrastructure."

Since October 2001, the National Cyber Security Alliance has worked with DHS and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) to conduct this national public awareness campaign to encourage Internet users to educate themselves on practices that will help keep their private information, computers and cyber infrastructure secure.

AT&T has committed its support to this important initiative through its robust suite of Security & Business Continuity services, proactive educational events held throughout the month and support for national online safety and security organizations like the iKeepSafe Coalition and the National Cyber Security Alliance. Additionally, AT&T is pleased to announce that Chris Boyer, Assistant Vice President, Public Policy, has joined the National Cyber Security Alliance board.

"The theme of this year's National Cyber Security Awareness Month is Our Shared Responsibility," said Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance. "AT&T's commitment to public education and awareness on Internet safety and security is a great of example of how by working with the private sector we can extend our reach. We look forward to the leadership AT&T will bring to our board."

AT&T's advanced network technology currently transports more than 18 petabytes of data traffic on an average business day to nearly every continent and country, with up to 99.999 percent reliability. AT&T's "in the cloud" approach to security delivers some of today's most powerful weapons to combat cybersecurity attacks. AT&T's network security solutions rely on three key ingredients: its scalable, reliable global IP network; its security experts who have in-depth, hands-on experience; and the innovation and research of AT&T Labs.

AT&T works with iKeepSafe on several initiatives to protect families on the web. AT&T has participated as a corporate sponsor with iKeepSafe on the Digital Citizenship C3 Matrix, which allows educators to integrate the three C's of digital citizenship into their curricula: cyber-safety, cyber-security and cyber-ethics as an effort to include these initiatives in the classroom. iKeepSafe has also released a book called Faux Paw and the Dangerous Download in conjunction with AT&T that highlights the do's and don'ts of downloading information safely from the Internet.

"National Cyber Security Awareness Month is a fitting time for families to have a conversation about Internet use and habits online," said Marsali Hancock, President of iKeepSafe, said. "AT&T provides numerous tools and supports several iKeepSafe online safety initiatives that can help families facilitate a conversation and empower kids to be safe and more secure online."

To help consumers foster a safer online experience, AT&T offers a full library of supportive Internet safety and security tips and interactive safety games for children, all available at http://www.att.com/safety. iKeepSafe's website also offers valuable resources to reinforce the lessons learned in their back to school initiatives.
