Saaspoint Appointed Advisor to Irish Government Agency to Deliver Cloud Computing Based Program to Irish Software Sector

As part of a program to create a knowledge based economy, Irish Government agency, Enterprise Ireland (EI) has appointed international cloud computing specialist, Saaspoint to deliver and manage a SaaS transition program, helping indigenous Irish software companies develop their products on a cloud platform.

Cloud computing is the term applied to Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications delivered over the Internet. Merrill Lynch has estimated that the global market for cloud computing business applications will reach almost $100 billion by 2011. Enterprise Ireland is the Irish Government agency responsible for the development and promotion of indigenous business. Its goal is to develop world-class Irish companies.

“Ireland has a great opportunity to be a global centre of excellence for cloud computing,” commented Jim Cuddy, Manager Enterprise and Finance Software, Enterprise Ireland. “We already have the international industry leaders located here such as Google and salesforce.com. As part of our recently announced software strategy, we need to leverage SaaS capabilities into the indigenous software sector.”

The Saaspoint deal, which was won following an international tender, is under EI’s Innovation Capability Building Programme for Software. “We selected Saaspoint because of their people, their proven global track record in implementing cloud computing across thousands of users and their experience in developing their own cloud computing applications,” added Jim Cuddy.

“Cloud computing is the fastest growing sector in the international software industry and represents a huge opportunity for Irish software companies,” commented John Appleby, chairman, Saaspoint. “It has been estimated that spend on IT cloud services is growing at over five times the rate of traditional on premise software.”

He added, “Cloud Computing now enables Irish software companies to base their success on creativity and innovation rather than the huge investments in platforms and distribution of traditional software companies.”

Founded in 2005, Irish owned Saaspoint specialises in helping global companies adopt and integrate cloud computing. Saaspoint’s partners include salesforce.com, Google and others. The company has also developed its own cloud computing products which have been sold across three continents. Many of its staff and founders were early employees of US quoted salesforce.com which is recognised as the pioneer in cloud computing.

While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...

The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas. In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will have the most profound e...
The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
