Entiera Accelerates Global Marketing Campaign Analytics with Vertica

BILLERICA, Mass., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- On-demand marketing infrastructure provider Entiera has slashed the time it takes customers to create, execute and analyze marketing campaigns from hours to minutes using the Vertica Analytic Database.

Entiera offers companies like Verizon, Equifax, TD Bank's Retail Card Services and Regus an enterprise marketing automation platform in a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model. Entiera Insight, the company's core software suite, helps customers tackle the largest, most sophisticated cross-channel marketing campaigns while reducing their IT costs by up to 80 percent.

As the campaigns and analysis clients were doing became more complex, Entiera sought out Vertica to meet that growing demand. In the process, the company initiated a major performance upgrade, according to Entiera chairman Jeff Wilkins. "We took the opportunity to both enhance the data schema and incorporate alternative database technologies that could give our customers better performance and the ability to scale to infinitely larger data volumes," he said.

After evaluating a number of alternative database tools and approaches, including Kickfire, CalPont, GreenPlum and InfoBright, Entiera chose Vertica due to its ultra-fast query performance and high-level of customer service.

The ability to handle massive data loads was another key criterion. Entiera's clients typically load up their marketing database with millions of customer records. This data is coupled with Entiera's huge database of consumer and business demographic information for prospecting and customer profiling. With Vertica, Entiera achieved dramatically better performance in campaign counts, analytic reports and data load/extract.

"Many client campaigns are highly complex cross channel initiatives and are often highly time sensitive. The ability to quickly execute them is a critical component to the service that we offer. With Vertica, the data constraints have gone away. Clients can now ask a lot more questions, do more sophisticated campaigns, and extend their campaigns to many more channels," added Wilkins.

Vertica is an MPP, column-oriented database built to handle massive analytic workloads such as those experienced by Entiera. With its aggressive data compression and columnar storage, the Vertica Analytic Database enables Enteira's customers to analyze much larger volumes of campaign data and run queries orders of magnitude faster than conventional relational databases.

"Marketers need to deliver cost-effective campaigns with a demonstrable ROI. With its blazingly fast performance and compelling value proposition, Entiera's Insight Suite is helping companies market better and smarter than they could using more traditional technologies," said Dave Menninger, vice president of product management and marketing at Vertica.

While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...

The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
