Unisys Teams with Intel for Services to Expand End-User Benefits of New 2010 Intel(R) Core(TM) vPro(TM) Technology

Unisys end-user support services leverage advanced capabilities of new processor to improve end-user experience for mobile workers

BLUE BELL, Pa., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that it will team with longtime partner Intel to bring enterprise IT organizations and end users flexible new services-based support solutions that expand the benefits they can realize from the new 2010 Intel® Core(TM) vPro(TM) Processor Family.

Unisys is a key participant in Intel's virtual launch today of the new generation of the Intel vPro processor technology, which simplifies remote monitoring and management of PCs and mobile computing devices.

"Unisys is committed to providing solutions, based on our best practices in service delivery, that enable information workers to get the most out of mobile devices based on best-in-class technologies such as the 2010 Intel Core vPro Processor Family," said Sam Gross, vice president, Global IT Outsourcing Solutions, Unisys. "Today's multi-generational workforce is technology-smart and wants to use devices that give them anywhere, anytime access to critical business information and applications. And they want support that maximizes their productivity wherever they prefer to work. Unisys and Intel will work together to help IT organizations give their workers the best end-user experience possible more efficiently and cost-effectively."

Unisys End-User Productivity Services and Unisys Converged Remote Infrastructure Management Suite service offering will provide expanded capabilities that make it easier for users to benefit from enhanced automated management and other core capabilities of the 2010 Intel Core vPro Processor Family.

For example, End-User Productivity Services will capitalize on vPro features such as Smart End-Point Virtualization to help end users access productivity software in a virtualized environment. According to Intel, these new features can reduce the time it takes to reimage a device with required software from 90 to five minutes.

Likewise, through Unisys Converged Remote Infrastructure Management Suite, service professionals will be able to take advantage of new vPro capabilities such as built-in keyboard-video-mouse (KVM) remote control. This capability enables them to see what the end user sees and provide faster resolution for service incidents, allowing the information worker to get back to productive work more quickly.

Secure delivery is a key feature of all Unisys end-user support services. New 2010 vPro smart security features - such as "poison-pill" anti-theft technology, which remotely disables a lost or stolen device once it attempts to connect to the network - will enable Unisys to provide end users with industrial-strength data protection anywhere they conduct business.

"Unisys is leveraging the capabilities of the all-new Intel Core vPro Processor technology to deliver industry-leading value for enterprise end users and service delivery professionals," said Jeff Marek, director of End User Platform Engineering for Intel's Digital Office Platform Division. "By capitalizing on our technology expertise, Unisys can deliver managed services that enhance end-user productivity and satisfaction for those using new 2010 vPro hardware platforms that provide enhanced performance, security and manageability."

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
