Cloud Security Alliance and IEEE on Cloud Computing Security

The two organizations will also co-present their findings at SecureCloud 2010 in Barcelona on March 16

Security Sessions at Cloud Expo

The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), a not-for-profit organization formed to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing, and IEEE, the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology, on Friday announced they are joining forces to ensure that best practices and standards are developed and available to provide security assurance for cloud computing.

As a result of this collaboration, CSA and IEEE have been conducting a survey to identify and define the most critical security concerns surrounding enterprise cloud computing.

The survey was completed by hundreds of IT professionals who are actively involved in implementing cloud-related projects. CSA and IEEE will announce their findings at the Cloud Security Alliance Summit, a half-day event being held at the RSA conference in San Francisco on March 1, 2010.

The two organizations will also co-present their findings at SecureCloud 2010 in Barcelona on March 16.

"Since founding the Cloud Security Alliance, our members have been committed to defining a set of best practices that will enable their organizations to embrace their cloud initiatives without compromising their security posture," said Jim Reavis, founder of the Cloud Security Alliance. "As one of the world's oldest and most respected computing organizations, the IEEE and their global membership will help us gain valuable insight into which cloud security concerns are most pressing. Once we fully understand these priorities, we will be able to better define new standards that will improve all aspects of cloud security."

"The true promise of cloud computing will only be realized if all aspects of security are addressed and communicated in a truly open and collaborative manner," said Judy Gorman, Managing Director, IEEE-SA. "Both CSA and the IEEE bring a unique and informed perspective to the table and this survey will help set the agenda for developing a comprehensive set of cloud security standards."

The Cloud Security Alliance is the world's leading organization focused on the cloud, and has assembled top experts and industry stakeholders to provide authoritative information about the state of cloud security in the Cloud Security Alliance Summit. This year's summit is being produced in cooperation with IEEE, which is presenting a session on developing standards to assure compliance and vendor interoperability. This event provides the attendee with a unique opportunity to learn the latest best practices that will help shape the future of cloud computing security.

Dynatrace is an application performance management software company with products for the information technology departments and digital business owners of medium and large businesses. Building the Future of Monitoring with Artificial Intelligence. Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more busine...
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...
The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully ...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
