Wyoming Offers Data Center Tax Incentives While Neighboring States Raise Tech Taxes - Green House Data Shares the Wealth Offered Through State Incentives

Cheyenne, WY, April 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- At a time when neighboring states are raising taxes on technology companies, Wyoming and Green House Data are causing more businesses to look across the border. New Wyoming tax incentives make Green House Data’s outsourced data center services to more attractive to technology companies in neighboring states. A measure exempting data center operators from sales tax on the purchase of technology equipment was signed into law in March.

“We are very pleased to be able to pass along these tax and other incentives to our colocation and managed hosting customers,” said Shawn Mills, president at Green House Data. “Our data center is focused on improving our customers’ ROI. At a time when the economy is putting pressure on all businesses, these incentives absolutely lower costs for our clients.”

Over the last several years, the state of Wyoming has begun a campaign to attract data centers and Green House Data was the first colocation data center to setup operations there. The latest effort championed by the Wyoming Legislature gives sales-and-use tax exemptions to data centers for equipment purchases of more than $2 million if the center has also made a $5 million capital investment in the state.

“Data centers are a perfect fit for the Wyoming economy. This industry can benefit from our stable power pricing, abundant broadband and now, additional tax incentives. As a state with an already low business tax burden, this tax incentive will further benefit data center operators and also companies that utilize data center services,” said Bob Jensen, CEO of the Wyoming Business Council. “Thanks to the foresight of our legislators, Wyoming is in the fortunate position of being able to continue to invest in growing new industries within the state. This measure will certainly contribute to the continued growth of the technology sector in Wyoming over the coming years.”

Green House Data has already attracted several companies from Colorado’s Front Range including Systemation, VideoBloom, and Conserto to name a few.

“As budgets continue to tighten across the country, these tax incentives may be viewed as the tipping point for selecting an outsourced data center operator in a location with competitive pricing and low propensity to natural disasters like Wyoming,” said Mills.
