NASDAQ OMX is headed to the cloud with a new offering called FinQloud which will run on Amazon Web Services, according to this GigaOM article. FinQloud will store and analyze financial trading data.

Cloud computing in the classroom is allowing students to better collaborate and access assignments and class documents when they are ill, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana article. Hobart Middle School is using Google Apps and social media to provide its students with a collaborative environment where students can learn, participate, and challenge each other.

A recent Pike report titled “Smart Government Technologies” says that the cities will be spending $1.4 billion annually on cloud services by 2017, according to this Information Management article.

Google will purchase clean energy from a wind farm in Oklahoma to power one of its Oklahoma-based data centers, according to this GigaOM article. This is the first time that clean energy will directly power one of Google’s data centers.

Every organization strives to be innovative, but what are companies actually doing to incubate innovation and how are new technologies contributing to innovation?
The topic of cloud and innovation was recently examined in an Innovation Today blog by Denise Dubie where she details a recent CA Technologies survey which asked the question: How does cloud computing drive innovation? “The responses from some 788 site visitors showed that the majority (nearly 80%) do attribute cloud computing with contributing to innovation somehow. Twenty-one percent said that it does not contribute,” Denise said. Read the full article.
