TOKYO, Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- KDDI Web Communications and Twilio, the cloud communications company have agreed to an alliance in which KDDI Web Communications will distribute the Twilio API platform to developers in Japan. Through this alliance, KDDI Web Communications will enable developers in Japan to easily build powerful software applications with communication capabilities. Twilio will aim to extend the use of its cloud-based telephony API in the Japanese market through this alliance with KDDI Web Communications (KWC), a subsidiary of KDDI Corporation, the second largest telecommunications company in Japan*.

In the field of cloud-based telephony, Twilio has overwhelming recognition and great success in the United States. The company, established in 2008, has a community of nearly 150,000 developers.
The Twilio platform provides the ability to make a phone call (outbound), receive a phone call (inbound), and offers VoIP and SMS functionality – all within an application.
KDDI Web Communications will start the exclusive distribution of the Twilio API in Japan. The service includes all of Twilio's telephony API service. The service will feature the underlying connectivity with Japanese domestic telecommunication carriers provided by KDDI Web Communications and will launch in the spring of 2013.
