SEATTLE, Nov. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Opscode®, the leader in cloud infrastructure automation, today announced that Message Bus, pioneer of cloud-based infrastructure for email, mobile and social messaging, has deployed Opscode Hosted Chef™ to automate configuration, environment and application management across the multiple cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers powering the company's innovative service.
The Message Bus Global Delivery Network is a cloud-native application service for multi-channel email, mobile, and social messaging. The service was purpose-built in the cloud, for the cloud, enabling businesses of all sizes to easily send email and other message types without the cost and complexity of multiple messaging servers. To power its solution, Message Bus leverages a unique infrastructure capable of managing dynamic workloads, which scale on-demand across multiple cloud providers including Joyent, Amazon Web Services, and Rackspace cloud services.
Using Hosted Chef, the Message Bus DevOps team was able to automate the company's entire compute stack in less than one month's time, instead of six months or more without Hosted Chef, eliminating nearly all manual management and creating the foundation for its leading-edge messaging solution.
"Hosted Chef has abstracted management to a few lines of code, taking months of manual work and condensing it to a few weeks," said Ken Cheney, President, Message Bus. "It's an ideal tool for our environment because it automates away risk and ensures consistency across everything from server configurations to application development."
"From compute to storage to networking, the enterprise shift to scale-out continues to accelerate," said Adam Jacob, Chief Customer Officer, Opscode. "Now, Message Bus is taking the lead in moving messaging to the cloud, leveraging multiple cloud providers combined with Hosted Chef to enable cross-channel communications via email, social and mobile at scale, and without the cost, complexity and personnel necessary to maintain complicated messaging infrastructure hardware."
Customer Benefits:
- Accelerated IT Operations: Using Hosted Chef, the Message Bus DevOps team automated everything from basic configuration to application testing across its entire cloud infrastructure, saving the company months of manual work and streamlining its application delivery pipeline.
- Cost Efficiency: With Hosted Chef, Message Bus can distribute service components across multiple cloud platforms, enabling the messaging innovator to take advantage of cost and technical variations in IaaS vendors offerings and pass the savings on to its customers.
- Intelligent Infrastructure: Hosted Chef provides complete documentation of all infrastructure changes, giving Message Bus full visibility into its infrastructure and enabling the company's DevOps team to abstract management of its many different environments to a few simple lines of code.
Consistent and scalable service operations are critical to Message Bus's business, so the company needed an automation engine capable of reliably executing resource management across its public cloud deployments. Hosted Chef enables Message Bus to configure cloud resources in full alignment to ensure resource consistency across all infrastructure components. In addition, Hosted Chef delivers complete documentation of all infrastructure changes, providing Message Bus with full visibility into its various compute environments and enabling the company's DevOps team to easily manage communications between its fluid cloud resources.
