With a string of new customers and alliances with strategic partners for its cloud-based medical image archive platform, Dell has been recognized as one of the largest healthcare cloud computing providers in the industry.
In September, Frost & Sullivan recognized Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences with its 2012 North American Company of the Year Award, based on the firm’s analysis of the enterprise imaging informatics market. “In addition to operating the industry's largest public cloud for medical imaging, Dell is also ideally positioned for the implementation of private clouds within multisite hospital and imaging center networks,” said Nadim Daher, principal analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
Dell’s Unified Clinical Archive (UCA) solution – which offers both on-premise and cloud-based storage options – simplifies data retention, facilitates disaster recovery and allows medical professionals to access and share images across a variety of applications and platforms. The Dell Cloud Clinical Archive is now managing more than 78 million clinical studies and more than 5.4 billion imaging objects, and supporting more than 800 clinical sites in one of the world’s largest cloud-based, vendor-neutral medical image archives.
New Alliances, Customers, International Growth
Over the last year, Dell has forged strategic alliances with industry leaders such as Siemens Healthcare, Agfa HealthCare, Aperio, Acuo Technologies and lifeIMAGE, in addition to previously announced alliances with Merge Healthcare, Calgary Scientific, Novarad, TeraMedica, BridgeHead Software, Avreo and Apollo.
These alliances – combined with Dell’s long-standing reputation in the field – have resulted in significant customer growth, including engagements with Intermountain Healthcare, Centegra Health System, St. Joseph Health, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, the U.S. Navy Medical Logistics Command and the U.S. Army Integrated Clinical Systems PMO, Elizabeth Wende Breast Care and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Dell is also working with HealthInfoNet, the Health Information Exchange (HIE) for the state of Maine, to pilot the nation’s first statewide medical image archive.
Dell’s global presence is expanding with recent UCA customer growth in the United Kingdom, Germany and South Africa. In the UK, Dell is working with the London PACS program and the NHS PACS Supply Chain Framework, and is providing the storage platform for the PACS solution chosen for the whole of Wales. Dell’s continued efforts to bring cloud-based medical image archiving to the UK highlights the company’s commitment to delivering proven, secure, flexible data management options to improve patient care around the world.

Quotes
“Through focused R&D efforts, acquisitions and strategic relationships with partners, Dell provides imaging customers with industry-leading vendor-neutral archive (VNA) and enterprise content management (ECM) capabilities,” said Frost & Sullivan Principal Analyst Nadim Daher. “Further, the cloud-based model it innovated is now being validated by the broader IT industry. Dell's UCA has set the standard for cloud-based enterprise-wide management of medical images and related information.”
“Healthcare providers are facing budget pressures while trying to manage the explosive growth of digital data,” said James Coffin, Ph.D., vice president and general manager, Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences. “Dell has developed a flexible clinical archiving solution that enables easy and secure data retrieval and sharing for the clinician, while simplifying IT management and maintenance overhead.”
