Amazon announced a 25% cut in Amazon S3 pricing at the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, according to this InformationWeek article. Andy Jassy, SVP of AWS, announced the cut at the event’s first keynote speech. The Smart Enterprise team was at the event armed with cameras, recorders and twitter accounts. Amazon announced two new EC2 instance types at AWS re:Invent and a new service, AWS Data Pipeline, according to this Smart Enterprise article.
Cisco has plans to acquire Meraki, a networking company with solutions that are centrally managed from the cloud, according to this Talkin' Cloud article. If the acquisition goes through, the deal will close at the end of Cisco’s second quarter, 2013 and will cost $1.2 billion.
Rackspace announced a new startup program in the UK, which gives startups the opportunity to apply for up to 12,000 euros of free cloud hosting, according to this ZDnet article.

Are enterprises running workloads in the cloud? In this GigaOM blog, Barb Darrow surmises that almost every Fortune 1000 company is running workloads in Amazon Web Services. Amazon has been offering many discounts in an attempt to lure enterprise customers away from traditional vendors.

General Electric released a new study that predicts the "internet of things" (for example, internet-connected smart phones, traffic cameras, and wristbands), could increase global GDP by $10-15 trillion by 2030, according to this GigaOM article. The study says that a 1% increase in efficiency from automation could save $30 billion in the aviation industry and $63 billion in healthcare industry.
Does managing BYOD cost too much? In this ZDnet blog, Jamie Yap describes the recent finding from the China Market Research Group (CMR) which revealed that due to the costs of supporting multiple device platforms and the risks involved in BYOD, many Asian companies are finding it more cost effective to distribute devices to their employees.
Is big data disrupting IT? In this Forbes blog, Gil Press argues that IT needs to start embracing new ideas, technology, and change, instead of falling back on the practice of control and stability.
