Actian Corporation, creators of Vectorwise, the innovative performance analytic database, has formed a strategic alliance with ScaleMP, the provider of vSMP Foundation virtualization software. vSMP Foundation aggregates individual servers to create a virtual symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) spanning across machine boundaries. Actian will now be able to supply the most demanding customers with databases that can grow to terabytes (TB) of data which utilizes the aggregated memory. Data in memory typically can be accessed up to 100x faster than having to retrieve the information from hard disk drives and up to 10x faster than flash. For maximum performance, it is critical to keep as much data in memory as possible and vSMP Foundation from ScaleMP allows for Actian to accomplish this.
The Vectorwise analytic database delivers record-breaking performance on industry standard hardware without tuning. This disruptive combination of high-performance and affordability is helping companies in all industries drive unprecedented new business value at a fraction of the cost of other leading solutions.
The Vectorwise and ScaleMP solution enables customers to access very large amounts of information quickly. With the innovative architecture of Vectorwise, combined with the ability to transparently access many terabyes of data, users will see increased performance and have access to more complete data and perform faster analytics.
“We are extremely excited to bring Vectorwise’s raw performance to customers’ massive analytic databases using ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation”, stated Steve Shine, CEO and President of Actian.
“Organizations world-wide will be able to analyze extremely large amounts of data with the enhancement of the Actian Vectorwise product combined with vSMP Foundation from ScaleMP”, said Shai Fultheim, founder, president and CEO of ScaleMP. “Customers will be able to speed up their analytics and workflows in order to gain more insight by storing more of their critical data in main memory”.
