CHENGDU, China, Dec. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Dec. 14, 2012, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), one of the top venture capital firms in the world, set up its first remote liaison office in West China in Chengdu Tianfu Software Park. This office, conveniently connected to KPCB's Beijing and Shanghai offices by an advanced Polycom video system, aims to build a bridge between local entrepreneurs and KPCB investors to broaden local talents' learning scopes and to provide local startups more funding opportunities.
"In recent years, Chengdu has seen a growing entrepreneurial scene with a large number of startups successfully promoting their products in China and abroad. In fact, we have seen for quite some time a large number of venture capital firms paying particular attention to the high-tech industries in Chengdu," said Zhou Jiang, the general manager of Tianfu Software Park incubation center. In 2011, the aggregated amount of investments received by startups located in the incubation center exceeded USD 15 million.
According to some statistics, Chengdu is now home to more than 500 mobile Internet companies employing over 20,000 people, covering areas such as games, applications, social networks, mobile Internet, information security, e-commerce and mobile payments.
Since established its office in China in 2007, KPCB has invested in many Internet companies, including leading enterprises in high-tech industries such as 360buy, Limei, Miaozhen, Kingnet, Huaban.com, Xiu.com and Meican.com. As one of the largest venture capital firms in world. KPCB's entry into Chengdu will bring not only capital to help local startups, but also its global resources to help grow their businesses, which is very good news for local entrepreneurs.
