MEF: Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Pioniere ebnen Weg für weiteren Anstieg der Ethernet-Zugangszahlen

Die steigende Anzahl von Zugangsprovidern der Ethernet-Gemeinde, neue Märkte für regionale Anbieter, anwendungsorientierte Dienstleistungsvereinbarungen, optimiertes Mobile Backhaul und Cloud Service Angebote … so beschreibt Ihab Tarazi, Chairman of the Board des MEF (MetroEthernet Forum) die Vorteile des aktuellen Angebots anlässlich der heutigen feierlichen Bekanntgabe der ersten zwanzig Anbieter des Carrier Ethernet 2.0 zertifizierten Produkts. Zu den Rednern gehörten auch der Ethernet Erfinder Bob Metcalfe und Nan Chen, President bei MEF.

„Die Erfolge der Unternehmen belegen ihr Streben nach herausragenden Angeboten auf dem Carrier Markt”, so Ihab Tarazi. „Die Zertifizierung wird die Serviceprovider in die Lage versetzen, die Ausrüstungsanbieter schneller und mit größerer Sicherheit auswählen zu können. Die CE 2.0 Zertifizierung markiert einen Meilenstein in der Geschichte des MEF und der Entwicklung des Carrier Ethernet.”

Die ersten 20 zertifizierten Anbieter: Accedian, Altera, BTI Systems, Ciena, Cisco, Cyan, FibroLAN, Huawei, Infinera, Juniper Networks, MRV, Omnitron, Overture, PT Inovacao, Pulsecom, RAD Data Communications, Telco Systems, Tellabs, Transition Networks und Transmode.

CE 2.0 der nächsten Generation erweitert das ursprüngliche Aufgabenpofil von Carrier Ethernet um wichtige neue Funktionen. Hierzu gehören unterschiedliche Service-Klassen, bessere Handhabung und leichtere Vernetzbarkeit für 8 Standard-Servicetypen, um höhere Effizienzniveaus für Mobile Backhaul zu ermöglichen. Eine große Zahl von Zugangsanbietern kann somit der Carrier Ethernet Gemeinde problemlos beitreten und als professioneller Cloud Service Carrier dazu beitragen, das Carrier Ethernet zu integrieren und zu etablieren. Nan Chen, President bei MEF, erläuterte: „Die Hauptmarkttreiber dominieren weiterhin die Branche: Bandbreitenvergrößerung, mobile Daten und LTE-Migration sowie das Wachstum des privaten und öffentlichen Cloud Computing.”

Bob Mandeville, President und Gründer des Testlabors Iometrix und Leiter der Testverfahren bei MEF, erläuterte die Herausforderungen bei der Einhaltung der neuen strengen Standards: „Die Hürden bei CE 2.0 Zulassungen sind hoch gesteckt. Um die CE 2.0 Zertifizierung zu erhalten, muss jedes Unternehmen eine Testreihe, bestehend aus insgesamt 634 strengen Prüfungen, bestehen. Mehr als 155 Unternehmen erhielten bereits eine CE 1.0 Zertifizierung und die Prognosen für 2.0 sind viel versprechend. Die Nachfrage nach zertifizierten Produkten und Serviceleistungen beschleunigt das Wachstum und wir erwarten im Jahr 2013 eine signifikante Zunahme im Hinblick auf die Anzahl der Serviceprovider sowohl in den etablierten Märkten als auch in den Schwellenmärkten.”

Das Carrier Ethernet hat sich zur größten Erfolgsgeschichte der Branche im letzten Jahrzehnt entwickelt. Erstmals in diesem Jahr übertrafen CE Bandbreiten-Dienstleistungsanteile die Gesamtzahl der traditionellen Telekommunikationsdienstleistungen weltweit. Laut Vertical Systems Group ist CE inzwischen als vorherrschende Technologie im Carrier-Sektor anzusehen. Im vergangenen Jahr wurden laut IDC mehr als 1,2 Mrd. neue Ethernet-Ports ausgeliefert (400 Millionen drahtgebunden und 800 Millionen drahtlos). Frost & Sullivan, Vertical Systems und Infonetics prognostizieren bis zum Jahr 2015 einen 48-Milliarden-Dollar Servicemarkt.

Bob Metcalfe, der Erfinder des Ethernet, fasste die Preisverleihungsgala mit folgenden Worten zusammen: „Auch 40 Jahre nach seiner Einführung ist das Ethernet durch eine Reihe von Innovationen gekennzeichnet.
