LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 02/07/13 -- CGI Group Inc. (NYSE:GIB)(TSX:GIB.A), a leading provider of information technology and business process services today announced that Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire has selected the company to replace its back office systems for human resources (HR), finance, procurement and payroll. The contract is for five years and includes implementation and support.
Like all public sector organisations, Kirklees Council needs to reduce its costs whilst improving the delivery of citizen services but found its ageing back office systems limited its efficiency. It has selected CGI to transform its financial, procurement and HR systems to enable it to improve its processes, make management information available for timely and accurate decision making and reduce costs. The council expect that it will be able to release efficiency savings of up to GBP 3m a year.
Built on a SAP ERP platform, CGI will implement the system to meet Kirklees Council's needs based on CGI's unique local government framework. The framework has already been successfully implemented 15 times into Local Government and CGI now intend to make this framework the basis for a SAP-based shared service platform in the future, available to current and future clients.
The new integrated ERP system will enable the consolidation of HR, finance, procurement and payroll functions which previously operated separately. It will help the council improve service delivery through streamlined best practice processes for local government whilst providing a sustainable platform which can evolve as the council continues its transformation programme.
"We have been very impressed with the quality of engagement and support CGI has displayed," said Adrian Lythgo, Chief Executive of Kirklees Council. "This, along with their professionalism, will substantially reduce implementation time and assist us with a seamless transition into the new service model which will better support the needs of the council."
"Local councils are under pressure to continue to improve and streamline their services while bringing down costs," said Paula Sussex, Vice-President, Public Sector at CGI in the UK. CGI has extensive experience in helping public sector organisations with their back office systems. "We have developed a system which will help Kirklees Council in its transformation by giving the council a joined-up view of its resources, helping it become more efficient and deliver significant cost savings."
