TechInsights Report: Cloud Succeeds, Now What?

Luth Research and Vanson Bourne recently conducted a survey of companies that are currently using cloud services to get specifics on how cloud computing is being used, top problems or successes, and how its use changes as IT teams gain more experience.   • A recent survey by the Ponemon Institute of 781 IT and data security practitioners reveals that mobile devices and cloud computing pose the greatest data protection risks for the healthcare industry, according to this MobiHealthNews article. The survey also revealed that 23% of respondents frequently circumvent or disable required mobile device security settings.

  • Amazon Web Services announced a large price cut to EC2 compute instances, reducing some costs by up to 80%, according to this GigaOM article.

  • A survey by Vanson Bourne reveals that 91% of IT decision-makers admit that their IT infrastructure requires substantial upgrades to meet the demands of virtualization and cloud computing, according to this ComputerWeekly article.

  • A report by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative reveals that cloud computing may reduce dependence on energy and save over $2.2 billion in energy costs, according to this CloudTimes article.
